Brazilian winger Antony (25) refused a rich offer from Bayern Munich to continue his career at Real Betis. The Spanish club signed him from Manchester United for €22 million.

Only half a year ago, Antony was struggling at Manchester United. Many fans laughed at his poor form. But after moving to Betis on loan in January, everything changed. He helped the team reach the Conference League final against Chelsea and finished 6th in LaLiga, which secured a place in the Europa League.

Because of his strong performances, Betis fans pushed for a permanent transfer. At first, it seemed unrealistic – United paid €95 million for him three years ago, and his market value is still around €35 million. In the end, Betis closed the deal for €22 million, one of the biggest transfers in their history.

Antony had other options. “I spoke with Bayern. They offered me €7 million per year, but I told them I gave my word to Betis. For me it was 95% sure, and I wanted to keep my promise,” Antony said in an interview with Radio Cope. More than five clubs contacted him, but he chose Sevilla.

The winger explained that he is happy with his decision. “I am sure about it because I feel good here. My family is happy too. Today is emotional, something I never experienced before,” he added. His arrival was celebrated by many Betis supporters at the airport.

Betting view

For betting players in Uganda, this is an important transfer in LaLiga markets. With Antony, Betis gains more power on the wing and can fight for a higher position in the table. Their first Europa League game is at home against Nottingham Forest on 24 September – a match to watch closely for odds and predictions.
