Laporta: “Flick Is the Perfect Coach for This Generation”

FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta has thrown his full support behind head coach Hansi Flick, calling the German the ideal figure to lead the club into its next chapter. After a year and a half in charge, Flick’s attacking philosophy and leadership have helped Barça move one point and 13 goals clear of rivals Real Madrid in LaLiga.

The numbers underline that progress. Across 94 matches, Flick averages an impressive 2.36 points per game, guiding the reigning champions back to the top of the table while adding a Supercopa title this season and last year’s Copa del Rey.

With presidential elections approaching on Sunday, March 15, Laporta made it clear that continuity on the bench remains one of his priorities. Speaking during a gala hosted by Mundo Deportivo, he stressed his desire to keep Flick long term.

“If I remain president after the elections, Flick will have a contract for as long as he wants.”

Beyond results, Laporta highlighted the coach’s personality and connection with the club, praising both his tactical intelligence and his character.

“He is phenomenal as a coach, and his human qualities are even better. He knows the club very well and continues to grow in experience. He is the perfect coach for these years at Barça, and thanks to him, we are experiencing very sweet moments.”

Although his current deal runs until summer 2027, Barcelona’s board is already considering an extension, with the outcome of the elections reportedly important to the coach.

“I’m happy here and hope to stay for many more years. I love this club.”

Flick, who previously coached the German national team and Bayern Munich, now turns his focus back to the pitch as Barcelona continue their pursuit of silverware. Next up is a Copa del Rey quarter-final against Albacete — the side that knocked out Real Madrid.
